How We Rate

The scorecard

Every product we compare is scored out of 100 on the same four measures our sister site uses, so a score here means the same thing as a score there.

Measure Weight What we look at
Evidence 30 Published specifications, maker documentation, and the weight of verified-buyer reports — hundreds of owners outweigh one loud review.
Cost of ownership 25 Not just the sticker: replacement parts, consumables, batteries, sharpening and upkeep, and what it costs to keep the tool working for years.
Owner experience 25 The recurring pattern in verified owners’ reports: what breaks, what annoys, what they’d buy again.
Preparedness fit 20 Does it earn its weight and space in a real kit for a real household — or is it a solution looking for a problem?

The rules behind the scores

Picks are made on evidence first. Affiliate programs and commission rates are checked only after a pick is made, and they never change a score. Prices shown are the prices we found when the comparison was prepared or last updated; we mark the date on every page. Where a claim can’t be verified, we label it as a claim.

Found a spec we got wrong? Tell us through the Contact page — corrections get made in the open, with the date changed at the top of the page.
