What Shelter Tactics is
Shelter Tactics is a research-desk review site for field gear — knives and tools, lights, packs and bags, fire and cooking gear, shelter and sleep gear, and safety and communication gear. We launched in October 2026.
We are not a retailer. We do not sell gear, take orders, or handle returns. We compare gear side by side so readers can buy the right thing the first time.
How we review
We work from a desk, and we say so plainly. We do not claim hands-on testing we did not do.
- Published specs — we start with the maker’s own numbers and check them against each other.
- Current prices — we check prices when we write and note when they were last checked.
- Owner feedback — we read through verified owner reviews and look for the complaints and praise that come up again and again.
- A set scoring system — every pick is scored out of 100 against the same published scoring system, so readers can see why one product came out ahead of another.
- Commissions never change a score. Picks are made on the evidence first. Affiliate terms are checked after a pick is made.
- No paid placements. Nobody can pay to be reviewed, to be ranked higher, or to have a score changed.
What we publish
We publish gear comparison guides and practical tools, such as our hammock hang calculator, knife steel lookup, and paracord length calculator.
We publish 8 posts a week — 2 posts each on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. We currently have 6 published posts, and that number grows every week.
Who reads us
Our readers are in the United States — campers, hunters, and bushcraft readers who are choosing gear they plan to keep and use outdoors.
On traffic, we will be straight with you: we’re new (launched October 2026) and growing — early traffic is small and organic. We’ll share current numbers on request. We would rather tell you that plainly than print figures we cannot stand behind.
What we offer partners
- Coverage consideration — send us a product that fits one of our gear categories and we will consider it for a comparison. Coverage is never guaranteed, and it is never paid.
- Photo and asset use with credit — if you grant permission, we use your official product photos and assets in the coverage, with credit, instead of stock or scraped images.
- Direct-program links — if you approve us for a direct affiliate program, we swap our links over to that program across the site, so sales are credited through your own program.
If we have reviewed your product and you spot a spec we got wrong, tell us. We fix corrections.
